We voted for Gov Walker in Wisconsin as a proven leader to get this state moving in the correct direction. Years of failed leadership exacerbated by Democrat spend & tax leadership has piled up excessive state debt. Unlike the federal government, the state cannot print money (not that doing so solves any real problems.) Gov Walker takes positive action to idenitify and SOLVE issues. Unfortunately, unions (when he was Milwaukee County Executive) and their court challenges on questionable contract provisions made this difficult. He has good advice and recognizes the long-term issues on unionized government workers. Not all states permit this and Wisconsin should be one of them.

Even FDR understood the threat of unionization of government workers. in a 1937 letter FDR wrote:

“The employer [of government workers] is the whole people.” Government employees, he continued, have “the obligation to serve the whole people, whose interests and welfare require orderliness and continuity in the conduct of Government activities. This obligation is paramount. Since their own services have to do with the functioning of the Government, a strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to prevent or obstruct the operations of Government until their demands are satisfied. Such action, looking toward the paralysis of Government by those who have sworn to support it, is unthinkable and intolerable.”

These union-member protesters have proven over and over their true interest is the protection of their sweet deals. Their CBRs are not being eliminated, just reduced to wage & salary. Still a sweet deal, not to mention the benefits they already have. Teachers union leads the way — now you know where the sweetest deals are.
